The Biggest Bull Market of Our Careers? Welcome to Forward Looking Statement
Meet the hosts of Forward Looking Statements. In this short introduction to the podcast, recorded in Beaver Creek, Colorado, Jim Paterson and Brien Lundin explain why they started the show and what listeners can expect over the coming year.
Between them, Brien and Jim have spent decades in metals and mining and built overlapping but distinct networks across the industry.
Brien, publisher of Gold Newsletter, brings the view of an analyst who has followed a wide range of projects, people and ideas over multiple market cycles.
Jim brings the perspective of a company builder who has focused on growing one company at a time.
Together, they’ll sit down with the smart, reputable people they know in the sector to explore how they read the market, where they’re putting their time and money, and how they’re positioning themselves.
Both hosts believe this is the biggest and potentially most rewarding bull market of their careers, with important differences from cycles past. Forward Looking Statements is built to help investors understand those differences while the market is still in its early innings.
Subscribe now so you don’t miss any of their interviews.
Be sure to check out the inaugural episode of Forward Looking Statements, recorded on location at the conference in Beaver Creek, Colorado, where Jim Paterson and Brien Lundin sit down with Fred Bell, CEO of Elemental Royalty, the day after the company announced the largest single transaction in its history.

FLS teaser : Brian London, forward looking statements. What's the genus genesis of this tremendous title? Well, the genesis was we were looking for a good name and had some names for this podcast that weren't so good. Yeah. Which is a whole nother story. But this the basic story is what we're trying to do here is bring our too many years of experience in this industry. the the cast of characters that we've come to know over our many years are very extensive networks that largely overlap but don't completely overlap. Yeah. And try and bring some value to viewers and listeners from those years of expertise in metals and mining. And and we're curious too, aren't we? I mean there's so much new and different about this market. We're always learning. And we're curious about some of the new developments and new ideas and new insights that people have into it. We want to bring that to an audience. And we decided that we would launch this venture at the Beaver Creek Conference near Denver in Beaver Creek, Colorado. many of our friends are here. In fact, many of our friends were with us last night at we had a Discovery Group party and there were fifty of the finest people at the entire conference there. I said I told you at the time that you could have a newsletter just based on the deals that come out of that room. Yeah. And you would probably outperform everything else out of the market. It was not only people who were good at what they were do doing and good at what they do, but they were good people. Yeah. And successful people in this industry that were more concerned about their reputations than making a quick buck or a quick hit at the detriment of shareholders. So That's really what we want to bring is those kinds of people that we know who have ideas about the market, not just specific deals or companies, but ideas, way to look at the markets, way to look at this the way this bull market is developing. And I think there's a sense of urgency to this, Jim, because I think this is the biggest and best and most potentially rewarding bull market that I've ever seen in my career. And I think it's going to go on a while. So I think there's a real need for what what we can do here. Yeah. And we talk about the overlapping contact networks. But actually I was thinking about it. you and I might know them in different ways. We've worked with them, or maybe you've interviewed them, or maybe they're longtime supporters of your conference, but we might have a a different type of relationship. Yeah. And I think that brings a lot of depth if we can kind of bring them together. When you talk about the early innings of a bull market, you want to be hearing what the smart people are doing. You want to be understanding what their thought process, what they're thinking in terms of How they position themselves, how they're spending their money, how they're spending their time. And we may not be the smart people, but we know who they are. We know who they are for sure. Absolutely. So I I think that that's one of the beautiful things. So we kind of wrote a list of topics and people that we wanted to interview. So the forward looking statements brand in terms of a show, yeah, perhaps may evolve over the next year. Yeah. But we're gonna have some great interviews. Yeah. probably a couple of great interviews today and over the next few days here at Beaver Creek. Yeah, it's a great opportunity because everybody's here to kind of start this and launch it. And as you say, we we have some ex we think at least exciting topics plotted out for really the next year and and really more than we can handle. And I think that's going to evolve a bit. But it's gonna be interesting. It's gonna be fun. And more importantly, I think it's gonna be valuable and I think it needs to be valuable because this again, this market is, I think, the biggest and best we've ever seen, but there are some crucial differences in it. and you're a company builder, I'm a company analyst, and I think approaching it approaching from those two different points of view is gonna bring a lot of value. Yeah, I was gonna say, like as an observer with your you know, writing the the gold newsletter, all the conferences, all of the panels. all the podcasts that you've been a part of and you have this wide range of people that you interview, you keep up to date with, you follow their projects. And I you know over my career I've I've really been more focused on one project at a time or one company at a time. It's a very different mindset, a different mindset. but we I think we can draw a lot from that when we interview these amazing guests that we'll have over the next few months to a year. And we have some fun ones and interesting ones lined up too. So I'm looking forward to it. Hold on to your horses, my friends. But Brian, I'm honored to start this journey with you. I couldn't find a better and believe me, I looked. No, I couldn't find a better person to do it with one of my long hard and and longest serving friends in the industry that that is not only so widely respected in the industry, but by me as well. So this is gonna be a lot of fun, Jim. Looking forward to it. Thank you. Me too.
